Brazilian Laser Hair Removal: What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Booking your first Brazilian laser hair removal appointment can feel intimidating — and most of that comes down to simply not knowing what’s going to happen. Once you know exactly what to expect, the nerves usually disappear fast.
This guide walks through everything: what makes Brazilian different from bikini, how to prepare, what actually happens during the appointment, the honest truth about pain, and what your results timeline looks like.
Brazilian vs Bikini — What’s the Difference?
These terms get used interchangeably, but they refer to different treatment areas.
Bikini Laser Hair Removal
Covers the hair that would be visible outside a standard bikini line — typically the sides and a small portion along the top. It’s a more limited area, often chosen by clients who just want clean edges rather than full removal.
Brazilian Laser Hair Removal
Covers the entire bikini area, including the front, sides, and — for those who choose it — the back as well. It’s the more comprehensive option for clients who want full, long-term hair reduction in the area rather than just maintaining the edges.
Which One Should You Choose?
It comes down to your personal goals. Many clients start with bikini-only treatment and later add the Brazilian area, while others go straight for full Brazilian coverage from session one. At your consultation, our team will walk through exactly what’s included so there’s no confusion about what you’re booking.

How to Prepare
Preparation makes a real difference in both comfort and results. Here’s the timeline to follow before your appointment.
Two Weeks Before
- Stop waxing, sugaring, or epilating the area. The laser needs the hair follicle intact under the skin — removing the root defeats the purpose of the treatment.
- Avoid tanning, including tanning beds and prolonged sun exposure, as tanned skin increases treatment risk and can affect results.
3–4 Days Before
- Avoid harsh exfoliants, scrubs, or alcohol-based products on the area to prevent irritation before your session.
24 Hours Before
- Shave the treatment area carefully with a clean razor. This allows the laser to work directly on the follicle rather than reacting with surface hair.
Day of Your Appointment
- Skip lotions, deodorants, creams, or any cosmetic products on the treatment area.
- Wear comfortable, loose clothing to and from your appointment.
Step-by-Step: Your Appointment
Here’s exactly what happens once you arrive.
1. Consultation and Skin Check
Before your first treatment, your technician reviews your skin and hair type, confirms your treatment area, and answers any questions. This is also when any contraindications (certain medications, skin conditions, pregnancy, etc.) are discussed.
2. Getting Positioned Comfortably
You’ll be guided into a comfortable position with appropriate draping, and only the treatment area is exposed. Protective eyewear is provided for both you and your technician.
3. The Treatment
Using the Asclepion MeDioStar Monolith laser, your technician methodically passes the device over the treatment area in sections. The device’s integrated cooling system works continuously to keep the skin comfortable throughout.
4. Treatment Time
A Brazilian session typically takes 15–30 minutes, depending on hair density and the specific areas included.
5. Immediately After
Your technician will check the skin for any redness or sensitivity and walk you through aftercare before you leave.
Pain Level (Honestly)
Let’s address this directly, because it’s almost always the biggest source of anxiety.
Most clients describe the sensation as a quick, warm snapping feeling — similar to a light rubber band flick — rather than sharp pain. The treatment area is sensitive, so the sensation is more noticeable here than on areas like the legs or arms, but sessions move quickly and most clients find it far more manageable than they anticipated.
It’s worth noting: topical numbing cream is not used for laser hair removal at our studio. The sensation felt during treatment occurs at the hair follicle itself, beneath the skin’s surface — numbing cream isn’t able to penetrate deeply enough to meaningfully reduce that sensation, and using occlusive creams on the treatment area can actually interfere with the laser. The built-in cooling system is what does the real work for comfort here.
Many clients say each session feels more comfortable than the last, as hair becomes finer and less dense with each visit.
Aftercare
What you do in the days following your appointment matters just as much as the prep beforehand.
Immediately After (First 24 Hours)
- Avoid hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, or intense exercise that causes sweating in the treated area.
- Mild redness or warmth is normal and typically settles within a few hours.
For the Following 14 Days
- Do not shave the treatment area for 14 days after your session — this is a firm guideline specific to this laser protocol.
- Avoid direct sun exposure on the area and apply SPF 30–50 if the area will be exposed.
- Skip scrubs and harsh skincare products on the area for at least 3–5 days.
- Avoid swimming pools and tanning beds for 3–5 days.
- Stay hydrated — it supports faster, more comfortable skin recovery.
What NOT to Do Between Sessions
Avoid waxing, plucking, or sugaring at any point during your treatment plan. Any method that removes the hair root will undo the laser’s ability to target that follicle in future sessions.
Results Timeline
Here’s what a realistic Brazilian laser hair removal journey looks like.
After Session 1
You can expect to see results within 14–21 days as treated hairs begin to shed. Most clients see at least a 30% reduction after this first session alone.
Sessions 2 Through 6
Hair becomes progressively finer and sparser. Sessions are typically spaced 4–6 weeks apart, timed to catch new hairs as they enter their active growth phase. For a deeper explanation of why timing matters, see our guide on how many sessions you actually need.
Full Treatment Plan
Most clients complete their Brazilian laser hair removal goals within 8–12 sessions, which is the typical range for lasting results with this treatment area. Hormonal areas like the bikini line can sometimes require a few additional sessions due to natural hormonal hair growth patterns.
Maintenance
After completing your plan, occasional touch-up sessions — usually once or twice a year — help manage any fine regrowth long-term.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Brazilian laser hair removal embarrassing?
It’s far less awkward than most people expect. Technicians are trained professionals who treat this as a routine, clinical procedure — and proper draping ensures only the necessary area is exposed at any time.
Can I get Brazilian laser hair removal during my period?
Most clinics prefer to avoid treating during your period for comfort and hygiene reasons. If your appointment falls during this time, contact us to reschedule — there’s no penalty for doing so.
Will it hurt more than a bikini wax?
Most clients find it considerably more comfortable than waxing, since there’s no pulling at the root — just brief laser pulses with continuous cooling.
How soon can I see my first results?
You’ll typically notice shedding and visible reduction within 14–21 days after your first session, with at least 30% reduction guaranteed after each completed session.
Can I combine Brazilian with underarms or legs in the same appointment?
Yes, many clients combine treatment areas in a single visit for convenience. Ask about combination pricing when you book — we currently have a Brazilian + Underarms package available.
What if I have a tattoo in the treatment area?
The laser cannot be used directly over tattoos, as the ink can absorb the laser energy unpredictably. We treat around tattooed areas with a safe buffer zone.
