If you’ve read the general guide to vaginal rejuvenation and are considering booking, this covers the practical detail: what the technology does, what the appointment involves, and what to expect afterwards.

How Radiofrequency Works on Tissue

Radiofrequency is an energy type used across aesthetic medicine — the same underlying principle behind Morpheus8 and other skin tightening treatments, applied here with equipment designed for intimate tissue.

The energy passes into tissue and generates controlled heat. That heat does two things: it causes existing collagen fibres to contract, producing an immediate tightening effect, and it triggers fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin over the following weeks.

The second effect is the more important one. The immediate change is modest and temporary; the collagen remodelling that follows is what produces lasting improvement.

Temperature control is the critical safety element. The equipment monitors tissue temperature continuously, keeping it in the therapeutic range — warm enough to stimulate a response, well below any threshold that would cause tissue damage.

What It Addresses

Tissue laxity following childbirth or associated with age.

Dryness and reduced natural lubrication, particularly common through perimenopause and after menopause as oestrogen declines.

Reduced sensation related to tissue quality.

Mild stress urinary incontinence — improvement is reported by some women, though this varies and should not be the sole reason for treatment without medical assessment first.

External appearance concerns, where treatment can be applied externally as well as internally.

The Treatment Experience

Before your appointment: you’ll have a consultation covering your history, current concerns and any contraindications. Treatment isn’t performed on the same day as the first consultation in most cases.

On the day: no special preparation is needed beyond normal hygiene. Come as you would to any gynaecological appointment.

During: you’ll be positioned comfortably and appropriately draped. The practitioner applies the handpiece, which moves continuously. Most women describe the sensation as warmth — comparable to a warm stone massage — rather than discomfort. Treatment takes 20–30 minutes.

Immediately after: you can dress and leave. There’s no recovery period, no restriction on driving, and no visible sign of treatment.

Aftercare: minimal. Your practitioner will advise on whether to avoid intercourse, swimming or baths for a short period. Most restrictions, where they apply, last a few days at most.

How Many Sessions

A course of three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is the typical starting protocol.

The spacing exists for the same reason as in other collagen-stimulating treatments: the tissue response develops over weeks, and treating again before that process has progressed doesn’t add benefit.

Maintenance sessions once or twice a year help sustain results.

Results and Longevity

Expect gradual rather than immediate change. Some women notice improvement after the first session; more commonly the difference becomes clear after the second or third, and continues developing for two to three months after the course finishes.

Results typically last 12–18 months before maintenance is worth considering. Individual variation is significant, and factors like hormonal status, age and the degree of change being addressed all affect the outcome.

What it won’t do: produce a surgical result. This is worth stating plainly. Non-surgical treatment improves tissue quality and tone. For significant structural change, surgical options exist and are a different conversation entirely.

Who Should Not Have This Treatment

  • Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Active infection, including urinary or vaginal infection
  • Unexplained bleeding — this requires medical assessment first
  • Certain implanted electronic devices
  • Active cancer or recent treatment, without oncologist clearance

Anyone with an IUD, a history of pelvic surgery, or an ongoing gynaecological condition should disclose it at consultation. Some of these are manageable with adjusted protocols; others mean the treatment isn’t appropriate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who performs the treatment? At Beauty & Laser, a female practitioner, working under delegation from a licensed physician as required in Ontario.

Is it embarrassing? Most women find it considerably less awkward than anticipated. The setting is clinical and the practitioner treats it as routine — because it is.

Can I have it during my period? Treatment is generally rescheduled. Contact the clinic to move your appointment; there’s no penalty.

How does this compare to laser treatments for the same concern? Different energy types with broadly similar goals. RF heats tissue volumetrically; laser works differently. Both have evidence behind them, and equipment quality and practitioner experience matter more than the energy type in most cases.

Will I need to keep having it? If you want to maintain the result, yes — periodically. This is true of most non-surgical treatments.
